The place to be when you want to learn

Library Fun in Term One!

Welcome to another year of reading in the library!

Year 5 students have had an action packed start to library in 2019 with lots of new learning taking place.

This term, students have refreshed their understanding of genres, set up a whole suite of library apps (audio books are a big hit at the moment for many students!) and began to compile To Read Lists based on recommendations from teachers and peers.

Library apps we use in Year 5

What’s on your To Read List?

The action will continue in Term 2 with the Carey Celebrates Literature Festival, where author and illustrator, Mark Wilson will speak to Year 5 students and run workshops with each class.

Please check the individual student blogs to read the Term 1 Library Reflections from each student.  Students were asked to reflect on their favourite genre as well as the Book Chat books they have enjoyed so far this term.

Which genre of books do you like to read and why?

Great Start to 2019

Wow! What an amazing start 5S has had to 2019!

APS has begun with swimming, bike riding, and triathlons. Everyone was excited to become involved and have a go. The quality of convincing persuasive stories in the class is growing daily and the lattice method of multiplication is becoming a popular choice.

We are all connecting new friends, building resilience and growing the bond within our class. So many exciting adventures to look forward to.

Camp Toonallook

Well, Camp Toonallook was as good as everyone had told us it would be! 5S has a wonderful time, with Mrs. DePavia along for all the fun. Low ropes, bike rideing, night walks, fishing, a visit from the Water Police, great food and lots of laughs. We all can’t wait to go back next year.

Year 5 Market Day

Wow, the whole of Year 5 had the most amazing day, on Friday 24th August. The Year 5 Market Day had finally arrived. After many weeks of planning, collaborating and creating, all the hard work had finally paid off. Congratulations to all of 5S for contributing to such a wonderful day and raising money for the JMB Foundation.

The Hard Road Ahead

Everyone in 5S has loved our unit The Hard Road Ahead. Seeing our completed diorama of Sovereign Hill, has made us all so proud of our hard work. We all wrote newspaper articles set in the 1850’s, which was another great way to show our creative writing skills. It has been a fun filled term of learning. We can’t wait to see what Term 4 will bring!!

The Term So Far….

We are almost half way through Term 2 and have been so busy! Our trip to Sovereign Hill during the first week is definitely a highlight. How good did we look dressed up as children of the 1850’s.

We have also played three games of APS so far this term. Football, netball, volleyball, cross country and dance/aerobics. It is fun playing against other schools, winning and loosing, learning new skills. We have one more training session on May 31.

Carey Celebrates Literature has been another highlight. We were lucky enough to hear Mark Wilson talk to us about his writing experiences. Another great day!

We are all working hard on building our dioramas of Sovereign Hill. A few more weeks of work and then we can show them off to our parents and friends.

Let the fun continue
